Fly Tying Video Feature: Streamers, Day 1

It’s January, and that means that for many of us in the north of the Mason-Dixon Line we’re in the midst of winter and the start of fly tying season. (Don’t get me wrong – you can still get out and fish too!)

Maybe you’re stuck in a rut on what to be tying this winter: enter the Fly Tying Video Feature. We’ll be featuring a few fly tying videos of different styles of patterns throughout the winter (the goal is 1-2 days of these per week, on a specific style of fly). To start off, we’ll do some articulated streamers for predatory fish.

Tying the Silk Kitty with Kelly Galloup (Galloup’s Slide Inn)

This is one of Kellys original streamer patterns from a few years ago. This is another longer tutorial, but Kelly breaks down the steps of the pattern and gives explanations along the way.

Lafkas’ Modern Deceiver (Dally’s Ozark Fly Fisher)

Take a Game Changer and a Deceiver, mash them up, and what do you get? The Modern Deceiver, tied by Alex Lafkas.

Chad Johnson’s Articulated Deer-Head SlugGo (Dally’s Ozark Fly Fisher)

If you want a streamer that pushes some water, look no further. This one will get the attention of predatory fish with that cylindrical deer hair head. You could probably adjust this for a single-hook version too.

Sculp Daddy (Brammer’s Custom Flies)

This is a good-looking sculpin pattern, and I really appreciate how Gunnar gets into the “why” of materials and methods used.
