This post features a video by Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions on how to tie your own tapered leader. Building custom leaders takes time, but once you learn how to do it your options are wide open for the leaders you can tie to cover a variety of situations. One tapered leader formula that is fairly common around here is the late George Harvey’s slack leader – an updated version of the Slack Leader formula can be found here.
The Fly Tying of Gunnar Brammer (Frankenfly, Gunnar Brammer)
Paul Beel operates the Frankenfly website, which highlights fly tyers and fly patterns in many categories. This is a guest post by Gunnar Brammer (owner of Brammer’s Custom Flies), where he shares his story of how he got involved in fly fishing and fly tying. His streamers look great, and he has some helpful instructional videos on his YouTube channel as well.
One Great Nymphing Trick (Troutbitten, Domenick Swentosky)
Here’s a helpful article on how to lead your nymphs through a single lane of current, which helps them get to the streambed quicker. There are some illustrations to go along with the instructions, both for nymphing with an indicator and without.
