We’re under a week from Thanksgiving, which is the start of one of my favorite stretches of the year (between Thanksgiving, deer season, Christmas, New Year’s – so much good stuff!). By the time you’re reading next week’s edition you might still be in the tryptophan-induced stupor from eating turkey on Thanksgiving.
But for today, pour yourself a hot cup of coffee, grab a chair, and enjoy what we have for you this week!

It’s starting to get cold. Really cold. But that’s okay, because it’s November. There’s nothing wrong with that at all!
We have a good lineup for you today, ranging from tips on selecting fly line, tying your own leaders, wild edibles, beads on nymphs, and an entertaining video to close it out. Grab your coffee, pull up a chair, and enjoy!

November has arrived! It’s hard to believe that three weeks from now we’ll be recovering from a tryptophan-induced coma after Thanksgiving. For now though, there’s a good bit of fishing and hunting to be had!
This week’s selection is a bit different: along with the typical articles and videos, there are two other videos of fish (Giant Trevally and catfish, respectively) doing some pretty amazing things. Enjoy!
From the Vice: October 2017
This is two days late, but here are some of the flies coming from the vice over the past month. Included are some experiments with new material and some flies that came straight from the need to clean off the desk. If you’re interested in ordering flies, please fill out the Contact Form and we’ll be in touch!

It’s hard to believe that we’re on the doorstep to the end of October – and it’s finally starting to consistently feel like fall! Now we just need a few solid days of steady rain to help get some stream levels up. For now though, enjoy this week’s Friday Five.
Gunnar Brammer: Tie Like a Pro
Gunnar Brammer (of Brammer’s Custom Flies) has put together a series to help you become a better fly tyer. There are three videos so far, all of them really helpful with some basics of fly tying (and especially tying streamers). Check them out below!

There’s a big game here tomorrow as the Penn State Nittany Lions prepare to take on the Michigan Wolverines. ESPN College Gameday will be here too – it should be a great game! In the meantime, relax by grabbing your coffee and enjoying this week’s Friday Five.
From the Vice: Back to Basics

Revisiting the basic patterns that you first learned is a good exercise. Maybe there are some new techniques you’ve learned to tie the pattern quickly, or maybe you just want to remind yourself that no matter how many new patterns come out there are some old standbys that are always worth having in the box.

It’s not the first Friday the 13th we’ve had this year, but it’s the first one that I thought about posting a song to accompany it. Who doesn’t like starting with a little Stevie Wonder on a Friday morning?
Get your groove on, then check out this week’s selection of articles (no videos this week!).
